This series of 64 small works on paper were created based on the ideas of I Ching* (everything is related, but no two things are the same). They are based on a variant of the same shape, with repeated juxtapositions of two colours and their various tones to create further variations. I was also intrigued by the idea of control and randomness. The colours and tones were particular, but the paintings were randomly displayed once completed to create numerous possibilities of seeing the work as one.
*The I-Ching divination system is represented by Yin (female – a broken line) and Yang (male – an unbroken line). These lines are combined in sets of three to produce the eight primary trigrams, which are in turn combined to give the 64 hexagrams.
